McLaren F1

McLaren
Technical Specs:
Engine: BMW 6.1 liter V-12
Horsepower (SAE net): 627 bhp @ 7400 RPM
Torque (SAE net): 479 ft/lbs @ 4000 RPM
Curb Weight: 2508 lbs.
Performance Specs:
Top Speed: 240 mph
0-60mph: 3.4 seconds
Quarter Mile: 11.6 seconds

The McLaren F1 is the fastest production car there is. She currently holds the record for top speed at 240.1 mph. The car is perfection. That's what happens when you mix the best of British supercars and German technology, a 600+ horsepower engine in a car that weighs less than a Ford Focus. One of its most innovative features is "fan-assisted ground-effect aerodynamics": essentially the car creates a vacuum underneath itself to keep it glued to the ground. She's got a sticker price at $815,000, so good luck getting one!
Boss Mustang
Boss Mustang
Technical Specs:
Engine: BOSS 429 10 liter V-8
Horsepower (SAE net): 855 bhp
Torque (SAE net): 780 ft/lbs
Performance Specs:
0-60mph: 1.8 seconds
0-100mph: 5.5 seconds
Quarter Mile: 10.55 seconds @ 135 mph

The Boss Mustang is a result of a Car & Driver competition between Ford and Chevy. It's essentially an old 10(yes, ten) liter Boss 429 engine dropped into a 94 Mustang shell, then sooped up to hell. You can see they were pretty successful, with a 1.8 second 0-60 time. What do you expect from 780 ft/lbs of torque? This was a one time concept car, no others currently exist.
Cool Bus
Boss Mustang
Technical Specs:
Engine: Alchohol fueld Chevy Big Block
Horsepower (estimated): 1000 bhp
Performance Specs:
Quarter Mile: 12.2 seconds @ 107 mph

Not too much is known about the "Cool Bus". It was hand made by Ken Nelson, and has gotta be the coolest bus ever made. Don't believe it? Go to the multimedia page and check out the video of it in action! Amazing, simply amazing..
DeLorean DMC2
DMC2
Technical Specs:
Engine: 13 liter V-12
Horsepower (estimated): 1250 bhp
Performance Specs:
Unknown

John Z. Delorean's (creator of the original early 80s DeLorean DMC) creation for the future. I'm not sure when these are gonna come out, but they are planned for production along with a smaller, less expensive car. The DMC2 is supposed to be something around a million dollars, and I'm guessing is supposed to compete with the likes of the McLaren F1. His other, smaller car, is supposed to be under $30,000 dollars, weigh approximately 1300-1500 lbs, and have 250-270 horsepower. Not too bad I think!
BMW Z9 Gran Turismo
Z9
Technical Specs:
Engine: 3.9 liter Turbodiesel V-8
Horsepower (SAE net): 245 bhp
Torque (SAE net): 413 ft/lbs
Performance Specs:
0-60mph: 5.0 seconds

BMW's concept car Z9 is quite a show of technology. The most noticable thing about it are the doors. They have automatic gullwing doors that can be opened by remote, as well as inset conventional doors. That's right.. both double hinged AND conventional swinging doors. The other most notable thing about it is the engine. It uses a turbocharged 3.9 liter V-8 engine that puts out relatively low amounts of horsepower (245), and uses an automatic transmission. However, that doesn't stop it from rocketing to 0-60 at 5.0 flat. That's faster than Mustang GTs, Camaro Z28s, Trans Ams, pre-97 NSXs, RS-7s, Boxsters, and of course the slowest of that crowd the S2000. Why could that be? Well if you've learned anything from my rantings, its that horsepower isn't all that matters. After all, why is it that a car with 5 more horsepower that weighs considerably more beat a S2000 by .8 seconds? The answer is the Z9's astounding 413 ft/lbs of torque, which it gets at around 1600 RPMs. The Z9's diesel engine is another big part of its technological aspect. Diesel, unlike regular unleaded gasoline, doesn't require old dinosaur bones to get gas. Imagine an engine that runs on waste oil from your local fast food stores. This BMW concept is never scheduled for production. However, its most likely going to give alot into the design of the new BMW 6-series sports cars, as well as influence some of the styling of the new Z3.
